Wrinkles (جھرریاں) appear as folds, creases, and fine lines on the skin and are a natural part of aging. These are likely to appear on the areas of the face where the skin folds the most during changes in facial expressions. Wrinkles appear as the skin loses elasticity and becomes thin and dry with increasing age.

Old Age Wrinkles
Old age wrinkles start to appear over time. They start at the age of 40. They occur due to a drop in collagen and elasticity in the skin. The renewal of cells also slows down with age causing more wrinkles.
Causes of Wrinkles
Facial expressions like smiling, squinting, and frowning can be a leading cause of wrinkles at a young age. These lines get deep with an increase in age. Dry skin type is the most vulnerable and prone to wrinkles. Some of the causes and risk factors of wrinkles can be controlled and some cannot be. Let's have a closer look:
Repeated Facial Expression
Facial expressions like smiling, frowning, and squinting can lead to the formation of fine lines. A groove is formed under the surface of the skin every time a muscle is used too much. This can get permanent with age, as the skin starts to lose its elasticity with age. With less flexibility in the skin with increasing age, it gets difficult for the skin to get rid of fine lines and they become permanent on the face.
Age
As age increases, it starts to lose its elasticity and become more delicate. The lesser production of oils due to increased age then causes the skin to wrinkle. The fat present on the skin also starts to diminish from deep layers and this causes skin sagging resulting in more lines and creases.
Exposure to Sun
Exposure to the Sun and especially to UV Rays is a major cause of the formation of early wrinkles. The connective tissues, elastic fibers, and dermis (deeper layer of skin)of skin are broken down when exposed to UV Rays.
Smoking
Smoking can damage the collagen that is a major part of the skin’s structure and therefore cause wrinkling of skin before time.
Skin Type
People with fair skins are more likely to get wrinkles on their skin because they are more susceptible to sun damage.
Risk Factors of Wrinkles
Prevention
Wrinkles can be prevented in several ways, these are listed below:
Moisturize Your Skin
It is very important to hydrate the skin to prevent wrinkles as dry skin is more likely to get wrinkles and fine lines.
Quit Smoking
If an individual who has wrinkles smokes, then it is important to find a way to quit it. The skin texture and tone start to improve as soon as smoking is stopped lessening the chances of wrinkles.
Protect Skin from the Sun
Keep yourself away from sun exposure, spend as less time as you can in the Sun. Wear clothing with full sleeves, use sunglasses and wear hats. Apply sunscreen that has at least SPF 30 and keep reapplying after 2 to 3 hours.
