  • Description

Clindamycin lotion works by inhibiting bacterial protein synthesis. Its primary mechanism of action is through binding to the 50S subunit of the bacterial ribosome, which subsequently interferes with the translation process. By doing so, Clindamycin prevents the formation of essential proteins required for bacterial growth and replication. This action is highly selective for bacterial ribosomes, as it does not affect the protein synthesis machinery in human cells, making it an effective treatment for certain skin infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The topical application of Clindamycin lotion allows for a localized effect, targeting the bacteria directly on the skin surface and within the hair follicles.

It is usually prescribed after a routine examination, often including lab tests to check your blood, kidney, and liver functions to ensure the medication is safe and appropriate for you. These tests are especially important as Clindamycin can cause adverse side effects such as neutropenia, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, and severe colitis. Additionally, long-term effects on your liver and kidney could be seen and lab tests will monitor the health of these organs to ensure they are functioning properly.
