Fenofibrate is a fibrate that activates peroxisome proliferator activated receptor alpha (PPARα) to alter lipid metabolism and treat primary hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and severe hypertriglyceridemia.

This medicine is used along with a proper diet to help lower "bad" cholesterol and fats (such as LDL, and triglycerides) and raise "good" cholesterol (HDL) in the blood.

Overdose symptoms may include headache, back pain, nausea, muscle pain, diarrhea, common cold, and upper respiratory tract infection. Seek emergency medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medicine.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don't remember missing the dose, don't double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

This medicine is usually taken once a day. Take the medicine at the same time each day to maintain the medication's effect. It's better if you take this medication with meals.

Do not use this medication if you have:

• Severe renal (kidney) or hepatic (liver) impairment
• Gall bladder disease
• Pancreatitis (infection of the pancreas)
• Increased sun sensitivity associated with the use of fibrates or ketoprofen

You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

• Do not drive while using this medication as it can affect the ability to drive.
• If any sort of swelling is experienced, consult your doctor immediately.

• Avoid drinking alcohol before and during treatment with fenofibrate.
