Diltiazem is used to treat high blood pressure and to control angina (chest pain).

Dosage
The following dosage can be followed:
- Hypertension- For the treatment of high blood pressure, Herbesser (diltiazem) is usually prescribed at an initial dose of 180 mg to 240 mg once daily in extended-release form. The dose may be adjusted based on the patient’s response, with a typical range of 180 mg to 360 mg per day.
- Angina (Chest Pain)- For chronic stable angina, the usual starting dose of Herbesser is 30 mg four times a day in the immediate-release form, or 120 mg to 180 mg once daily in extended-release form. The dosage may be gradually increased depending on how the patient responds, up to a maximum of 360 mg per day.

Missed Dose

How To Use
The regular tablet is usually taken three or four times a day. The extended-release capsule and tablet are usually taken one or two times a day. Ask your pharmacist if you should take diltiazem with or without food, because instructions may vary with each product. Take diltiazem at around the same time(s) every day.

When Not to Use
You should not use diltiazem if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
- A serious heart condition such as "sick sinus syndrome" or "AV block" (unless you have a pacemaker);
- Very low blood pressure;
- If your heart cannot pump blood properly; or
- If you have recently had a heart attack and you have a build-up of fluid in your lungs.
