- Ovarian cysts: Endometriosis can cause the formation of cysts on the ovaries, which can be painful and affect fertility.
- Bowel and bladder problems: Endometriosis can affect the bowel and bladder, causing pain during bowel movements, constipation, diarrhea, and painful urination.

Prevention
Although there is no exact preventive measure that can reduce the chances of endometriosis. Yet there are some ways in which one can prevent this disease to some extent.
Control Your Estrogen Levels
The doctors might prescribe you a hormone therapy that can control and lower the levels of estrogen hormones in your body.
Exercise
Physical activity is a great way to cater to the hormonal imbalance in your body. Make sure to engage yourself in any aerobic exercise for at least 30 minutes a day.
Diagnosis
The doctor might ask you questions about your menstrual routine. He or she might also ask queries regarding the area and intensity of the pain. The doctor might also recommend the following tests for the diagnosis of endometriosis.
Pelvic Exam
The doctor will assess the areas of pelvic to check out for any abnormalities.
Ultrasound
With the help of high-frequency sound waves, a body image is created. It is often recommended to get a clear picture of the workings and situation of the reproductive tract.
MRI Scan
MRI uses both radio waves and magnetic fields to create a detailed picture of the organs and tissues. It is also important for the surgical planning and assessment of the size and location of the tissue outgrowth.
Laparoscopy
The surgeon will assess the inside of the abdomen with the help of a tiny incision.
Treatment of Endometriosis | When to Consult a Doctor
There are two types of treatments for endometriosis. One is surgery and the other is medication. Your gynecologist will analyze the situation and will recommend the treatment accordingly.
Pain Medication
This method involves over-the-counter medications. These medicines are:
- NSAIDs
- Ibuprofen
- Naproxen sodium
In case the female is not trying to get pregnant then the doctor might recommend you to take pain relievers.
Hormone Therapy
Your doctor might also recommend you undertake hormone therapy. The hormonal balance that occurs during the menstrual cycle can lead the tissue to overgrow. Hormone therapy can lead to slow growth of this tissue and this also eases the pain.
Conservative Surgery
If the female is aiming to get pregnant then surgery is the right option. Conservative surgery is a method that involves the removal of tissue outgrowth.
Fertility Treatment
The doctor might also recommend the female visit a fertility specialist if she is trying to conceive.
Hysterectomy with the Removal of Ovaries
It is the surgical removal of the uterus and cervix. Nowadays doctors avoid this method because it causes menopause at an early stage of life. Early menopause can lead to severe cardiac issues as well as metabolic conditions and even early death.
