Diphtheria Outbreak Worsens in Pakistan - WHO, UNICEF Promises Aid

According to the latest reports, Diptheria is claiming fatalities in Pakistan despite being wiped out from other parts of the world. However, health officials are continuously claiming that there has been an increase in immunizations in the past time. Still, at least 39 lives have been lost to diphtheria and the situation is not recovering anytime soon.
Health officials have said that WHO and UNICEF are making efforts to provide anti-diptheria serums to Pakistan, in order to reduce the effects of this disease among teens and children. According to the pediatricians, this diphtheria outbreak is worsening because of the unavailability of vaccines and the said anti-diptheria serums.

The official press release stated that "Diphtheria is a lethal bacterial infection, a vaccine-preventable disease, but every week dozens of diphtheria cases are now being reported from Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan while suspected diphtheria cases are also being reported from Azad Jammu and Kashmir”.
Diphtheria is a serious and fatal bacterial infection that leads to serious health complications such as irregular heartbeats, breathing issues, and even death. At present, Pakistan is providing a set of five vaccinations to children which provide immunity against tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis, hepatitis B, and Influenza.
