UAE Plans to Set up Plasma Farming Facilities in Pakistan

In Islamabad, the Ministry of National Health Services (NHS) in a landmark development has addressed the plasma farming facilities (PFF) development with the UAE. The report says that UAE aims to conduct a feasibility study to establish PFF, which will be developed according to the World Health Organization WHO. The blood services in Pakistan offered by the hospitals, provide blood banks without functional separation of the plasma processes.
Dr. Hassan Abbas Zaheer, the WHO adviser, shared “Pakistan does not have a single PFF while there are a few hundred thousand patients suffering from immunodeficiency disorder”.
Further, He told the Media, “The term to separate the blood components was called “Plasma Fractionation” as blood was initially divided into three components called Platelets, Red Blood Cells and White Blood Cells which floated in a fluid called plasma”.

Former Project Director of Safe Blood Transfusion Project (SBPT), Dr. Zaheer said that “A huge industry was required to do “Plasma Fractionation” and if plasma would be separated Pakistan can meet the requirements of the country and can also export it.”
He further stated that it may take a large number of donors and also an industry to perform Plasma Fractionation at the industrial level.
Ministry also issued a statement, regarding a mission compromising members of the ruling family Dubai UAE Sheikh Ahmad Dalmook Al Maktoum, members of Hayat biotech limited, Biotechnology Company in the UAE Contractors from China called on Federal Minister for Health Abdul Qadir Patel.
Moreover, Abdul Qadir Patel also stated” Pakistan highly values its relation with UAE which leads to collaboration between two nations in the field of health that will benefit the people of Pakistan.”
He also said, “reforms in blood banking services by ensuring plasma manufacturing from every unit of whole blood collection with proper processing and storage services as a significant step in health reforms and economic development”.
The team from UAE will visit Lahore and Karachi to furnish feasibility reports for the execution of the project, and to consider more plasma fractionation establishment.
